The exhibition “To get lost is to learn the way” is a subjective presentation of Joe Slovo’s project, a action co-leaded by collectif saga.
The exhition tells the story behind the project in this particular environment. It both shows the township in itself but also the context of Port Elizabeth and more widely South Africa. The aim is to show what you can’t see while looking at the physical aspect of the building. We are talking about all the little things that hide behind the physical place. It shows saga’s vision: the architectural project is not the only nal goal, the process behind matters too. We intend to show everything that enrich this process, every little thing that make it grow and let it be the way it is. That way, we intend to slowly initiate real life moments, sharing experiences, and cultural blending.
The scenography of this exhibition invite you to get losr, in order to better discover, learn and be surprised. The golden forest, created by the light and owy blankets, protects the even more precious times presented. Those do not belong to saga, they show the non physical part of the building, the part that is rarely presented in architectural exhibitions. We slowly get lost in this golden protective case that prevent us from seeing nor earing the surrounding city or even the others around. Sometimes, the density of it decreases to create a new space where the project is shown. After being lost, we get an insight that slowly makes us understand the process through various documents. We can then go back to being lost and try and nd a way that we need to invent.
