Following a feasibility study and successful referendum, the SFS team proceeded with design and construction phase services for a new community recreation and aquatics center. In partnership with the Excelsior Springs School District, the 50,000 SF center is located on a highly visible and accessible site shared with the High School, Middle School and Performing Arts Center. Program components include indoor aquatics, divisible multi-purpose community events hall and catering/teaching kitchen, intergenerational center, party room, child watch area, member service desk, offices and support space, racquetball courts, aerobics/dance studio, gymnasium with elevated walking track, weights and fitness area, and offices for the Parks & Recreation Department.
The natatorium includes a zero-entry family pool with water feature; a 3-lane swimming pool, 3-story flume water slide, 11-person spa/hot tub, locker rooms and adjacent party rooms. A future outdoor aquatic center was taken into consideration during the design of the community center. It will be adjacent to the indoor aquatic facility and will economically share shower and locker facilities with the center. SFS has since worked with the City to further develop plans for the outdoor aquatics center.
