Aerodynamics: the interplay of forces and motion of objects
through the air.
Ever since Daedelus and Icarus humans have desired flight.
Flying in heavier-than-air machinery has only become possible in the last
century. With the Aerotower this coveted
wind-space can be now be occupied.
A 21st century counterpoint to the Empire State
Building which emerged from the perceived steady bedrock of 20th
century capitalism, this is based on today's dynamic markets of flux. As
virtually all parcels of the famous New York
grid have been sold off, it is now the third dimension that's
the new commodity. Markets open up to those below as they sell airspace rights above to accommodate
this new type's swinging path of travel. The aerofoil profile of the Aerotower plan aligns its leaves of 40 stories each to the
tangent of least resistance. It doesn not fight, but dances with the wind. Less
lateral loads require less structural material per leasable area, thus the modernist's
dream of column-free space is realized. The braced protected stairways act as giant
diagonals in a truss. This thing can be built tall-135 stories, as its structure's optimized for flight not statics. Core generates
electricity through the rotation of the two leaves of offices. Wind is funneled
to the array of turbines. No views are
ever the same and hierarchy disappears - all is “corner office.” Moving floorplates are not for everyone: adventurous
tenants need only apply.
