Eve Street is located in the centre of the eclectic community of Erskineville, within the renewal locality known as Ashmore. Surrounded by the like-minded suburbs of Newtown, Alexandria and St Peters, this once heavily industrial area is in the middle of a transition with the industrial sites being converted to apartments.
The Eve Street development seeks to intertwine the area’s brick making, tanning, and industrial past with the gentrification of the 1970’s, to today’s rich tapestry of urban village life.
The proposed building form respects the existing and proposed urban form by defining the public space with a street wall along Goddard and Eve Street. The street wall continues at a lower height through the laneway – further defining the public space but with the scale adjusting to the change in street typology.
Above the street wall the buildings take on a more sculptural form and are designed to capture the sun and maximize amenity.
The built form aligns with Eve and Goddard Street providing a central open space that continues through to Coulson Street. This provides solar access to the open space and to the rear of the buildings on the site behind.
