A STORY
We consider the existing buildings as urban cells with their heritage, the challenge is to link them and define a logic able to attract people defining a new community.
The scope is to create a community and after to define the structures able to accomodate it. What is the core of a community? probably a common sense of appartenance to something. What is this certain something? Could be a Soccer team, a family, sometimes a neighborhood that you like and would never change it.
To create this sense of appartenance what is missing is a core and an effective connection net in between its fragmentated parts.
We have to create a urban “heart” that would define an identity. Thus we locate the “heart” which we identify with the square at the left of the pool, the name will be choosen by the citiziens, and we will redifine the functions of the buildings around it, a Market and a repair center in the West building and a Civic Center that will fly above the others buildings on the south side. In the center of the square an Iconic wooden
Volume will define a urban reference point and will accomodate a Cafè / Library.
HEART FUNCTIONS:
MARKET
The building will be divided in two functional areas, one with a market where citizens will find groceries, newspaper, tobacco, pharmacy, detergents, and whatever product the community could require. Prices will be kept low for residents as the products will be bought together and every resident will have the right to become shareholder.
The principle is to have a common market where few employees will manage the general shopping for the whole community keeping low prices. The products made by residents will be exposed and advertised in the market.
REPAIR EXCHANGE CENTER:
The other half of the building will have a Repair and Exchange center.
This center will take charge of repairing old electronics, furnitures,..., or will help finding buyers through a net shop. The Repair center wil take care also of contacting products brands in case of products with valid warranty, avoiding waste of time for the residents. Also this center will be shareholdered by residents.
An exposition area will show products that residents could be willing to exchange.
This center will have the chance to become a reference place for the whole Hammaro and surrounding area and therefore capable to attract people.
CIVIC CENTER:
Civic Center that will fly above the others buildings, being able to reconnect the area from the bus arrival zone to the more west block and defining a multifunctional volume able to absorb all needs that this community could have at the different hours, meetings for associations, private lessons, social dinner, cinema and TV room,..., and will be managed by the citizens.
PEDESTRIAN LINKS:
In this climatic condition one key element is the necessity for most of the years to live in inside areas avoiding outdoors. Therefore even for trips of a few blocks distance people could use their car. Considering the existing buildings as single cells, we therefore want to create a covered
pedestrian connection able to re-establish a by foot speed community.
along this connection routes there will be static social space, where you can sit, have a coffee, a TV lounge, a little library, a chess table or whatever the users would decide to put in these particular areas.
CRATERS:
These Iconic woden shapes will host various functions according to the specific needs ( TV/cinema room, Kindergarten, Cafè ).
ENERGY and WASTE STRATEGY:
Energy will be created by wind turbine and liquid compositing methane facilities.
All Building will use geothermal Heat gain, sewers waters will be collected and moved to a liquid compositing facility whose location should be found in the proximity and will help in defining a Zero energy consumption energy Development.
To improve this system of energy generation from “ black waters” all WC should be saving waters one, even dry WC system should be considered.
Grey waters shall pass to a biofilter or degraser and then will go to the Sattersviken lake vegetation that will act as a natural phitodepuration.
RESIDENTIAL:
Residential units will follow Co-Housing guidelines which main points are:
1 Participatory process.
2 Neighborhood design.
3 Common facilities.
4 Resident management.
5 Non-hierarchical structure and decision-making.
6 No shared community economy.
The Arrangement of tyipical housing units will provide wide outdoor terrace
area (32 or 64 sq.m. ) for each unit ( 64 to 128 sq.m. ). The units will benefit
from Cross Ventilation and will be powered by vertical axis wind turbine, heating will be provided by radiant floor and Geothermal probes will improve the system efficiency.
