this competition called for ideas to
develop vistillas park, on the west edge of madrid's old town. The brief was to
design a new urban park, retaining green spaces and adding a multipurpose sports
hall, a nursery, a centre for elderly people and a church library. we were also
asked to create new paths and vistas connecting the park to its historic
surroundings.our starting point was the park's location on one of
madrid's steepest slopes and our design complements its existing plateau. from
there we looked at how to allocate spaces and the uses of land, whilst retaining
the park's historic character and visual links to the palace and the manzanares
river.
