This urban design for the so called BIG island in the southwest of Vienna, situated on a sloped area, enables a sustainable urban growth by introducing an urban design, based on the historical growth of european cities in combination with high density, modern urban conglomerates. An urban layout was designed which would be able to stay abreast of changes by introducing a basic grid, developed out of the aforementioned approach, capable of containing rural or village like structures as well as a high density urban building agglomeration. A modulated hight profile creates points of higher density and creates centres within the settlement, which are acting in combination with the allocation of the proposed functions (residential, business, commercial, recreational, etc..) The Village City is an strong answer to the questionable development urban planing and design took in the last decade and reveals a sustainable, livable way of urban design, which makes it possible to generate manifold and unique situations of urbanity for inhabitants to identify with as their place to live in, as their home district, their neighbourhood.
