It'd be best if it wouldn't be there - that was a first thought that came to mind when our client presented her plot of land. Serene beauty of the mountain landscape and the nearby national nature preserve inspired us to create something truly unique - an ethereal mountain lodge.
The archetype of our design was a traditional shepherds' cabin - a common form in the region. The core of the living area became a distinct, translucent glass triangle-shaped sleeve covered with a green roof. Living room, dining area, kitchen and a mezzanine with a cinema room were fit inside. Large windows at both ends of the sleeve provided interior with the light and sight of the vistas, effectively becoming eyes of the building - a symbolic nod towards profession of our client, an ophthalmologist. Wooden truss and and epoxy floor added peculiar feel to the interior's design.
Private and guest quarters were built into the steep mountain slope. Through this we were able to achieve a natural feel, as the green roof will eventually be covered by native plant life. Just as with the living area, so too the private space had been provided with large glazings.
By combing both structures into one, we attained an ethereal, illusionary form blending with the environment. The mountain landscape reflections in the lodge's windows emphasise the connection between both.
