A departure from conventional architecture, this volcano-shaped, multi-purpose stadium blends seamlessly into the landscape. Jean-Marie Massaud designed the stadium as one with the environment: Its 8,000 parking spaces are hidden beneath the stadium, the lightweight roof floats above like a cloud. The 45,000-seat structure is an important public space, featuring children's play areas, beauty salons, a climbing wall, roller blade track - and is surrounded by a grassy hill that also functions as a public park. The full effect of the stadium as a living volcano will mature over the next two years, as both grass and trees continue grow.
