Situated in an area of predominantly mock style mansions, Millwood responds to our clients desire to build a contemporary 5 bed home in an otherwise typically suburban environment.
The design of the house is a composition of geometric forms responding to the two angles of the site. These shapes interlock, overlap and project giving a bold layered appearance.
The hall provides some drama upon entry with a large curved void overhead and bespoke designed, oak open stair. The organic shape of the void is the only soft line in the scheme giving a contrasting foil to the other geometric forms.
The external walls are rendered using a palette of 3 greys together with a red accent to the front entrance and rear chimney further accentuating the playful use of shapes. At the rear the folding sliding doors and a large glass roof provide strong connections with the outside and the 90m garden. A two-sided wood burning fireplace is used as a centre-piece to the open plan living, dining and kitchen area. Located at the inside corner of the L-shaped room, it relates to both sides as well as offering a strong vertical element to the rear elevation with the red chimney.
