The purpose of the intervention is the recovery of the old railway station in Camas as a cultural place (Espacio CREA). It is located inside the Victoria Kent linear park, a strategic objective of the Camas Town Council as a future cultural axis of the municipality. The building has been the object of unfortunate interventions, which deconfigured its spatial quality, with a level of physical and functional obsolescence that made the development of any activity unviable.
The proposal aims to restore the spatiality of the station, adapting it with versatility to the required uses. The programme is organised into four spaces: a central hall as a reception room; on one side, a dance classroom; and on the other, a group of classrooms for training, sculpture workshops and painting.
The installation of plug-in boxes makes the distribution of the spaces possible, serving in turn as storage, toilets and cupboards. The linearity and recovered spatiality of the building are directly related to the genetic code of the urban form of Camas, historically conditioned by the railway line.
The program is completed with an outdoor exhibition space. Inside, the roofs and trusses are restored and the brickwork is left exposed, creating an abstract and versatile cultural container.
