El Segundo Museum of Art is a two-story art museum built for a family who wanted to share their private art collection with the public. Working within the constraints of a narrow 25’ x 140’ parcel, one of the primary goals was to maximize the allowable built area while providing for a central two story high gallery. The building also includes offices, restrooms, a break room, a storage/layout room, and a one bedroom residential unit for an artist-in-residence program. A roof deck that is accessible to the artists, allows for private parties with expansive views of El Segundo. Stainless steel and white burnished concrete masonry were selected for the primary building materials…creating a dramatic and iconographic facade.
