A Design and Built competion was held in 2001 to create a new Hospitality School in the Douro region, north of Portugal. RSO toghether with a JGomes contractor won the competion in 2004, and after 2 years the school was finally ready to open its doors to new students, Today, Lamego Hotel School is the country largest school of its type, and caters a region best known for its Port Wine and lavish countryside. New hotels and gourmet restaurants open every year and seek the school for its students and also as a place for training. The tight budget for the project was an architecture chalenge that we where glad to undertake, as we do believe in architecture as service. The school is also located near the Nossa Sra dos Remedios sanctuary, and the design seeked a low tone integration philosophy, through its low rise horizontal scheme, and the dark colours that blend into the mountain mist.
