This project was to create a 10 year master plan for the Erie Zoo in Erie, PA.
After meeting with the Erie Zoo staff, groups were created and site analysis began.
Two key problems were identified: the zoo’s lack of new visitors and short operational season. To address these problems a “winter” zoo was created to help increase revenue by adding an additional zone open year round. The additional zone includes an outdoor ice-skating rink, which will attract a younger cliental.
The animals in the “winter” zoo, include elk, penguins and polar bears; animals able to endure the winter elements as well as summer elements. In addition to making a master plan for the zoo, a new brochure was designed. This updated brochure emphasizes the strengths of the zoo, including newborn animals and special events.
