The flagship location of Eric Buterbaugh's debut fragrance collection, the go-to floral designer for L.A.'s stylish set, is situated in a mid-century building that was previously a series of dilapidated, segmented office spaces. Despite the dilapidated state of the building, it had the potential to be an exceptional courtyard space. Ballentine Architects Studio, in collaboration with SFA Design and The JRC Group, worked on redesigning the building to create elegant and useful spaces for events, the boutique, the art gallery, and the office. The offset pivot door provides a sense of privacy and intimacy, making it feel like an otherworldly entrance to a garden separate from Beverly Boulevard's busy atmosphere. The brass finish on the gate pays homage to the mid-century themes and hints at what other finishes are displayed throughout the spaces. Vintage ornamentations were specifically sought out and obtained for this project to reflect the quality of both the experience and the product from the initial moment each space is occupied.
The spaces are designed for different audiences with different intentions in mind. The Retail Boutique is dedicated to visitors who want to experience the art of creating custom fragrances. A darker mood contrasts the light and pleasant fragrances and floral arrangements being presented. There is also a connecting patio with sliding glass doors that allows for an indoor-outdoor space, where fragrances are enhanced by gorgeous landscaping that reflects the inspirations of the perfumes. While the Retail Boutique aims for a more natural and relaxing lounge environment for consumers, the Event and Gallery spaces are geared towards a larger audience, where bright lights allow carefully curated floral art pieces to be on full display. All the artwork displayed throughout the spaces is inspired by the perfumes and is carefully selected to represent the fragrances and bring together their differing qualities.
