« Metamorphose » is an ephemeral
intervention, leading the spectator up to a particular rereading of the urban
scene. This work, specific to a place, reveals an intimate relationship between
a contemporary architecture and a patrimonial site. Indeed, « Metaphormose »
has been conceived as part of the 4rth Festival of lively architecture in
Montpellier, France, and took place in a remarkable courtyard of the historical
center.
“Architecture of lightness, fragile, fluid,
abstract, impalpable… Thus, on the basis of the birth’s metaphor, a delicate
mix of ephemeral and curiosity, the intervention is merged in the idea of the
cocoon. A structure with a single use, which sometimes seems not to be stable.
An evolutionary landscape is proposed to visitors, taken in a sensory
experiment, a crossing point wrapped in a veil of mist. The landscape put in
scene is a course of unceasingly renewed images where each new and personal
glance becomes discovery. The structure is hung on the walls and develops
itself from there. The projects is subjected to a double evolution, a gradation
in its density and an alteration in its geometry, it marks the borders of
various states. It will then come to be diluted from these points of tension,
weaving interferences and cohesions with the surrounding. Its hybrid
configuration, with half-closed half-opened, tells, stimulates, and suggests
uses without ever imposing a specific behavior. More than anything Metamorphosis’
is sensitive course, a succession of visual and tactile sequences.” Extract
from the press release of the festival of lively architecture in Montpellier.
By his incongruous aspect and his
intriguing shape, it attracts the citizens in the boundaries of a hidden space
that the city was containing in his inside. It reveals temporarily to the
general public what was till there a universe reserved to initiated... it
offers a sensible progression to the discovery of the place. Creeping into its
openings, escaping into its verticality, interweaving interference and
cohesions with the around, it becomes a complementary element giving value to
the place. The enclosed space becomes opened, the collective becomes public,
the transitional becomes a place of socialization, where is taking place
discoveries, meetings and exchanges; exchanges between citizens, between
citizens and city. The space with a private character adopts an urban face.
« Métamorphose »'s attitude towards its potential use encourages to curiosity.
Curiosity of an urban re-reading and a re-practicing. The time of a look, the
intervention changes our relation to the space and to the time, invites us to
contemplate a piece of city, a fragment of architecture.
In this way, the installation, far from
being an (ex) posed object, reacts with the around, works in symbiosis with its
environment, resting on the guiding elements that form the existent. Contrary
to a backdrop, the context, by its typology, its light and its shadows effects,
is always an integral part of the project. It proposes and superimposes an
ephemeral and contemporary vision of spaces to a vision of stable and perennial
architecture, into a back and forth of curiosity generated by the confrontation
of these two languages.
