For a relatively new real estate developer in the locale of Melaka, S/LAB10 was commissioned with the task of re-purposing their headquarters’ interiors. The end result: a light-filled and trim office fit-out befitting a group of urban professionals on an upwards trajectory.

Spread over two levels, the designers worked to maximise the area of the existing floors in careful layout of shared working spaces among its more private and enclosed counterparts. Designated offices for the company’s directors and managers were placed off to each side of the floors, thus flanking the central, common shared areas for their staff. While the insertion of partitions for the purpose of privacy was necessary, the designers sought nevertheless to emphasize lines of sight and visibility throughout the scheme in a bid to exaggerate its humble size and volume. Their design strategy of choice: to employ the use of soft angles and materials. Throughout the design, curved angles were used on corners, edges, and dividing planes. In doing so, the designers were able to eliminate the otherwise harsh, linear geometries and visually obstructive planes and forms of dividing screens, worktops and other fixed components.
