Project Description:
Envy lounge was inspired by the setting of 1920s in the United States: Speakeasies, which were the hidden sections of an establishment that were used to illegally sell alcoholic beverages in Prohibition Era. Therefore, the brief of the project involved creating a fun, chic, and evocative space that wake memories of the past.
Exterior façade of the building is painted with dark black. The lifelessness, dull look of the exterior would deceive people by thinking of the lounge as an old, dead place. Conversely, the gleam and glitter was inside the black box.
As the main doors open, a long corridor ahead is a time tunnel which travels people to the era of 1920s: black aluminum panels has been installed on both sides of the corridor to reveal silhouettes of speakeasies’ jazz band playing music and flapper girls dancing the night away to their tunes. The silhouettes are equipped with motion detector lighting device, and they get illuminated as people walk in front of them to give a welcoming gesture.
The main lounge area is one open space with high ceiling, decorated with flake flooring, red brick wall, elegant blue and golden velvet sofas, golden cocktail tables, shimmering crystal chandeliers, and layered cross swag drapery. All the elements were designed to exemplify Speakeasies theme with a modern and innovative approach.
While Envy Lounge got enthused by the ambiance of 1920’s, it did not try to replicate the clubs of that period of time. Innovative techniques and materials were enhanced to make this space suitable for the current time being. Indeed, this place opens a dialogue between past and present, it is a lounge where old and new meet each other. It is full of memories yet unique and incomparable; therefore, it is a perfect match for the contemporary lifestyle.
