OOIIO, emerging architecture team based in Madrid, Spain, has been awarded with the 1st Prize on the open competition for the construction of a special office building for entrepreneurs and the development of new business ideas in Mora, Spain.
OOIIO proposes a new work space concept, adapted to the singular conditions of the special users of this building, all of them ready to develop the first steps of their new business ideas. This people has a lot of initiative and ambitions, they follow their dreams and are up for risk their money and time to get their goals. When one of this guys gets their targets a lot of people gets benefits from it, because they will generate employment and money for their community. Mora City Council knows that and this is why they promoted the construction of such a building to help them on the most complicated years of their businesses, the first ones.
OOIIO´s building is designed to promote the interaction between the users, generating a comfortable work environment and, over all, it is a platform to share ideas and throw them to the market. This building has studios, workshops, co-work spaces, meeting rooms, teaching rooms, presentation and exhibition areas,... everything oriented to promote the professional human relationships and really connect the entrepreneurs between them and their products with the exterior.
For example the offices walls anre short and not 100% closed, they have no doors, so there will be more interactions between users. The central space connecting the two floors, that place that all the users have to cross daily, is actually a big exhibition area where products and ideas can be exposed and show on the open amphiteatre and the galleries, able also to welcome lectures and presentations from invited people.
The target is to get successful businesses on the market, and this is why we designed a open and optimistic building.
This construction is not located on the urban center of Mora, is on its industrial state on the outskirts. Industrial buildings has usually repetitiveshapes, they necer have a house shaped look. We wanted to take the traditional shape of a house from the urban center and do a reperirion of it on our building. With this repetition we adapt our building to the industrial context where is located and using the home shape we want to make the users feel like in home, not at work.
The main local industry today is olive oil. We take olive oil color and brightness to the building façade with a double skin metal panels that help us to save energy and protect the interior from the strong sun.
This building located on an industrial zone has a shape that is a link to the urban center. Its façade with its colors and perception is a link to the local industry and main product.
