The Enterprise Park Swimming Pool and Bath House replaces an existing facility constructed in the 1960’s. The overall park site also includes a gymnasium and picnic shelters, located within the County of Los Angeles Department of Parks and Recreation system and operated and maintained by the County. The project scope includes the construction of a new bath house and pool equipment building, new pool deck, and plastering of the existing pool shell.
The structure is conceived as an open-air pavilion constructed of concrete block, and steel. Programmatically, the bath house consists of a central bag check enclosure clad with galvanized metal siding that controls building access with a clear line of vision to both men’s and women’s shower and dressing rooms. A family changing room, men’s and women’s lifeguard restrooms and storage complete the program, while a glazed lifeguard office monitors pool deck activity. Formally, the building consists of two wings, one plaster clad to identify the men’s area, and the other of exposed patterned concrete block to identify the women’s, separated by a dramatic raised entrance volume.
The building maintains its security by an enclosing skin scaled to a height of nearly 10 feet with limited penetrations of strategically located glass block openings. A wire mesh clerestory rests on top of the perimeter wall providing natural light and cross ventilation while attached to the exposed metal deck above, conforming to the “v” tapered roof profile. A transverse wall plane penetrates the building entry lobby, incorporating a glazed tile mural designed in collaboration with the Los Angeles County Arts Commission. Interior aquatic themed hues and ceramic tile in “spa colors,” create an inviting and soothing environment for the community.
