The new offices of a non-profit founded by James Rouse evoke the organization’s national leadership in sustainable urban development and affordable green housing. Responding to Enterprise’s need for a collaborative and flexible environment, the offices are comprised of open workstations along the perimeter, with spectacular light and views, surrounding a centrally located complex of meeting spaces. This complex is divided into four blocks of glass-fronted meeting rooms that create interior “streets“. Each block is defined by its own unique color and wrapped with images of groundbreaking ceremonies of Enterprise projects. At the center of this “urban core” is a lively street crossing which is the social epicenter of the office.
The space uses sustainable materials and systems throughout and is expressive of Enterprise’s pioneering Sustainable Communities Initiative. Most notably, the custom graphics are printed on a wall covering manufactured from recycled waste and sustainable forested wood pulp. Within a limited budget the plan, materials, and form of these new offices simply and powerfully express their mission to create affordable housing and sustainable communities for low income Americans.
