Project Objective:
Energy Modeling for Hospital Building to propose expected Energy Conservation Measures (ECM)
Technology/Software Used:
eQuest
A Dubai based client approached Hi-Tech with a project for a hospital building, wherein they wanted to bring down the utility bills by reducing the energy consumption due to lighting. Hence the work scope was
to simulate and analyse the lighting fixtures and the lighting system within the hospital premises.
Healthcare organizations have to spend a fortune on energy bills each year in order to provide patients with the best and the latest health care facilities. As a result even a small saving from these utility
bills can be a game changer, as this amount can be prudently used in providing better services.
Challenges:
1: Client wanted suggestions for minor changes in lighting fixtures, and expected that these changes should result in overall 10-12% saving
2: This project had to be completed in a short span of 15-18 days
Engineering Solution:
1: Inputs from client included CAD & pdf drawings with details for all three disciplines i.e. Architecture, Structure & MEP.
2: Based on the inputs from client – 3D models in e-Quest were created for the proposed case.
3: Further another baseline 3D model in e-Quest as per standard ASHRAE 90.1-2007 was also developed
4: Both the models were compared and energy savings were evaluated to suggest changes in lighting system and lighting fixtures.
5: After thorough comparison and evaluation and of these models Final Energy Optimization Reports meeting clients expected energy savings and the proposed Energy Conservation Measures (ECM) were extracted.
Benefits:
1: While the client expected only 10-12 % savings, Hi-Tech managed to suggest the most prudent changes that brought down the consumption by 14.35%
2: Using efficient lighting fixtures as suggested also helped client reduce the lighting power density by 30%
3: The entire project was done as per the client requirements and to the clients satisfaction, in a time frame of just 14 working days.
