Endeavour Elementary is uniquely innovative in that it architecturally
supports a project-based curriculum, utilizing multiple, flexible group
activity spaces. The design incorporates "color-coded" classroom wings
that break the student population into smaller groups, provide a sense
of identity for students, and act as a navigation tool for visitors. The
school divides students into four smaller groups, (one specifically for
kindergartners), each clustered around a central open space that offers
a gathering area, daily access to technology, and space for many
different learning activities to take place. Endeavour Elementary will
create young adults exceptionally prepared not only for their future
school years, but lifelong learners with group work skills and problem
solving abilities that will make them uniquely successful in the
workplace. The building utilizes a playful and appealing astronomy
theme, with interior and exterior colors, signage, and flooring patterns
that reinforce this idea. Each small learning community is named for a
different galaxy, providing an additional layer of identity for students
as constellations in the floor tile enlivening the circulation spaces.
The prominently located media center features planetarium-like planets
and moons, while a scale model of our solar system is laid out
graphically in the entry plaza.
