Located in the Santo Inácio neighborhood of Santa Cruz do Sul, Encantas is the first Pediatric Dentistry Clinic in Brazil that is entirely inspired by the montessorian method of child development; it aims to encourage bonds with patients and families, through the enchantment technique - from the very first contact.

The space emerged from the unification of two commercial rooms, which were completely redesigned to house an enchanted universe.

LISTENING

It all starts with people. During the initial studies, we were invited to think, alongside the owner and team, about the promotion of an experience that could positively contribute to the development of the child's brain, respecting their individuality and encouraging autonomy, self-esteem and self-confidence. We used neuroscience tools applied to architecture to generate data that guides decisions with intentionality, resulting in a clear diagnosis of the project's human, technical, and symbolic needs.

STRATEGY

We designed the project concept and the spatial solutions aligned with the clinic's purpose, values and identity, uniting strategic design, well-being and hospitality. At Encantas, we designed three offices entirely dedicated to children and teenagers; the entire infrastructure was designed as a support for the dentistry’s application with excellence: with hygienization room connected to the three offices, specialized restrooms and dedicated support for the health and the well-being of the team.

The spaces were organized from a playful and welcoming pathway that guides and invites users to move throughout the entire place, considering the human need to feel part of the physical space. To achieve it, we used furniture sized to the child's scale; accessible items of their interest (both for their eyes and hands) were provided. Significant investment was made in visual, tactile, auditory and olfactory memories: all to promote good memories, that can be positively decoded by the brain and that stimulate the creation of bonds with Encantas.

Transforming the experience of a dental appointment was our goal, and the child-sized door creates a magical experience. Rhythms of light and shadow, provided by natural or artificial lighting, are present throughout the places. At the materiality marine plywood is one of the main characters, bringing children closer to a natural and welcoming material. The set is integrated as a place of balance, where the colors, the shapes, the textures and the people form a welcoming and unique whole.

EXPERIENCE

We developed the technical design and the detailing, coordinating all project disciplines - we followed each stage, from execution to occupancy. At Encantas, we paid close attention to how spaces could facilitate the cleaning, the sterilization and the maintenance - given that this was a project developed during the pandemic. The challenge was fundamental to the internal layout of the offices, which, on the one hand, included exceptional attention to the hygienization issue; and, on the other, provided an unique connection between the pediatric dentist, the little patients and their families.

The result are spaces that inspire, strengthen the brand and generate real impact.
