Conceived as a dramatic style of installation bar in an existing city lounge – this sushi bar fluidly snakes through the existing bar to occupy its space while drawing renewed awareness to the heritage building that encloses it.
Unapologetically dark – this boldly black coloured design is intended to inject a sense of elegance to the urban fabric while retaining the edgier quality of the industrial urban city in which it lies. The design uses layering of textured materials to provide the warmth to the all-black bar, while allowing for the beauty of the contrasting sushi itself to take center stage.
An exercise in craft, from the detailing to the presentation of the food, En Sushi embodies the opportunities for small structures to create unique dining atmospheres within the city. Designed with flexibility in mind, the sushi bar also adapts to the lounge bar needs later in the night. Varied seating is provided in the design for guests to explore and to offer different connections with the Sushi Chef, who is central to the design.
