Set into the forested slopes of Whistler’s Emerald neighborhood, Emerald Tree House is a site-specific response to a steep, untouched lot. The design embraces the natural topography, stepping down the hillside and creating elevated living spaces that sit among the trees.
A palette of concrete and steel echoes the surrounding landscape, while large openings bring in natural light and frame mountain views. At the center, a custom spiral staircase, too large to install conventionally, was craned into the structure and lowered into place, becoming both a technical feat and a sculptural centerpiece.
Emerald Tree House reflects a careful balance of design, materiality, and context, built to feel rooted, quiet, and entirely of its place.
