Source Architecture Unveils 'Ember Home': A Serene Ode to Luxe Minimalism in Bengaluru
In Ember Home, design doesn’t shout—it murmurs, reveals, and resonates. Brought to life by Source Architecture, under the direction of Principal Designer Sneha Ostawal, this 1000 sq ft apartment in North Bangalore elevates the idea of compact living through a lens of quiet luxury. Minimalism is not treated as a stylistic reduction but as a curated framework—one that balances form with feeling, scale with soul. Nestled in the city's northern precincts, the three-bedroom residence transforms constraint into clarity, proving that even the most modest footprint can host a world of emotion and elegance.
Designed in 2024 for clients Vineet and Neha Chopra, Ember Home responds to the challenges of limited square footage with ingenuity and warmth. Minimalism often walks the line between austerity and expression; in this project, Ostawal leans decisively toward the latter. “We carefully laced the space with understated luxury to add character without overpowering the atmosphere,” she explains.
Neutral hues, refined textures, and statement lighting work in concert to weave an ethereal glow throughout the home, earning it the apt moniker Ember. Designed for a family of three, the home reflects their desire for open spaces, ample storage, and a calming aesthetic. Enhancing the visual storytelling, the interiors were styled by Pooja Shrinivas of @panachewestyle and captured evocatively through the lens of photographer Nayan Soni.
The journey into Ember Home begins with the foyer, where a geometric wallpaper forms a muted yet striking backdrop. A wooden louvred console table adorned with brass accents is a subtle statement piece. Throughout the home, the clever use of materials and finishes magnifies the space: walls and ceilings share the same tone, blending into the beige tiled flooring for a cohesive, expansive look.
In the dining area, mirror panelling with bevelled edges introduces a layer of sophistication while visually expanding the room. Curvaceous, bespoke furniture softens the architecture’s linearity—bean-shaped sofas and gently curved upholstered chairs from Creatomy, along with a marble-topped dining table from Dtale Modern, create a harmonious language. A pair of sculptural totems from the same brand unify the living and dining zones, enhancing the spatial rhythm.
Lighting, curated from Hybec, Hatsu, White Teak, Length Breadth Height, and Dtale Modern, brings both drama and intimacy, shifting to suit the mood of each room. Civil works by Anu Interiors, electricals by Parvathi Electricals, carpentry by Ganesh and team, and finishes by Asian Paints contribute to the project’s flawless execution.
An arched entry leads into a compact U-shaped kitchen, efficiently planned in beige laminates with black detailing. Here, the layout prioritises functionality, with all appliances aligned along one wall to support Neha’s passion for baking while maintaining visual clarity.
Each bedroom carries its own distinct identity through subtle use of colour. In the master suite, blush-toned accents complement a contoured hydraulic bed, while suspended shelves and a dressing mirror strike a balance between charm and function. Floor-to-ceiling wardrobes, made from Century Ply and custom laminates, offer ample storage with refined detailing.
The guest bedroom adopts a deeper, more masculine tone, centred around a dark-stained bed and precisely crafted wardrobes. In contrast, the son’s room bursts with personality. “His affinity for blue inspired the room’s aesthetic,” says Ostawal. The layout hugs the room’s edges, leaving open space for play. An ombre blind and whiteboard wall encourages creativity and personal expression.
Apple wood veneers are a consistent thread across all bedrooms, reinforcing a sense of calm and continuity. A playful yet thoughtful touch: each wardrobe interior mirrors the dominant colour of its respective room, blending practicality with design delight.
In Ember Home, Source Architecture turns spatial limitations into an opportunity for invention. Every inch is crafted with intent, where nothing is excessive, yet everything feels generous. With a rare blend of aesthetic sensitivity and functional intelligence, the home becomes more than just a dwelling. It’s a refined sanctuary that proves luxury isn’t measured in square footage, but in the quality of space, emotion, and experience.
