„Elisabethinen Wien-Mitte“ (Elisabethines Vienna Center) - redensification and building in existing buildings
A piece of architecture in the middle of Vienna's 3rd district: The Delta Pods Archites (team of architects & designers) played a key architectural role in this project. From 2013 to fall 2022, they were responsible for the renovation, conversion and extension of this project. Our services within the company group included architecture, general planning with ÖBA (local building supervision) and partial project management. The site combines a wide variety of user groups on 30,000 square meters: a hospital, a nursing home and a convent. The project was completed in 2022 and is a prime example of inner-city redensification and social sustainability. The architects responsible were faced with the challenge of not only seeing this historic building as a monument, but also making it "fit for generations". The construction challenges were to take into account monument protection, archaeological finds, the outdoor facilities with the historic mulberry tree as well as the new construction and renovation during ongoing operations. The project was awarded the CCC Award for this collaborative partnership and the Monument Protection Medal (2023).
