In cities like Nicosia, Cyprus, where contact with nature is limited, biophilic design takes on exceptional importance. The proposed design aims to serve as a gateway to nature.
The site is located just 7 minutes from the city centre of Nicosia. It is an area named ''Eleonas'', a notable district that once was known for its olive groves until 1963, unfortunately today there is not a single olive tree in the area. The proposed house is an opportunity to reclaim some of the lost greenery and create an environment rooted in the memory of that particular place. The design seeks to establish a dialogue between context and nature.
Feeling the joy and beauty of nature in our home in the city but at the same time integrating the site's memory within the interior was the beginning of our biophilia approach for the concept of this house. A series of landscape journeys throughout the house relocates our physical relationship to the environment.
