The project is envisioned over two sites located in Kolkata, West Bengal. The first typology showcases the experimentation of the roof for the bus bays and the shipping container used for the built spaces. The view shows the angular bus bays with folded plate roofs for optimum shading wherein the office block forms the corner landmark to the bus terminus. Built using stacked shipping containers, the structure is fast to assemble and adds a unique character to the urban fabric. The vibrant signages and graphics make it easier to navigate the project for the users.
The second typology shows the similar experimentation with the workshop and office block made by stacking refurbished shipping containers create a play of solid and voids in the facade. This allows for step-out spaces for employees to take a break and connect to their surroundings. Also, cutting out large windows from the otherwise dark and dense shipping containers transform them into pleasant habitable spaces. The use of these containers aims to reduce and reuse industrial waste and materials while entirely cutting down on the carbon footprint a typical construction method would have.
The design proposal for the bus portal creates a cohesive design by integrating the peripheral charging bays with human circulation through a central archway.
