The "Salakot" house was inspired by the form of the traditional farmer's hat in the Philippines. To blend with the surroundings and the beachfront, local & sustainable materials will be used. The entire house can be opened to the outdoors thus expanding the indoors towards the deck and allow maximum ventilation. The large overhangs will protect the indoors from direct sunlight and monsoon rain. The roof is also designed to create a stacking effect wherein hot air will be vented out through the space between the second roof.
