Located in the 'Alto Prado' neighborhood in Barranquilla (Colombia), Café 'El Diario' stands out among other contemporary spaces due to the warmth of its spaces. This place was designed to be a meeting point that would allow its clients to feel at home and at the same time have a bright and comfortable workspace. The space was conceived with the intention of rescuing the coffee tradition of 'Diario' artisanal coffee that has been produced since 1998 in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta. The rough textures and earth tones seek to evoke the unique serenity of this territory that the brand seeks to share through their coffee. The creative process was intuitive with these concepts in mind and sought to put innovative construction techniques in conversation with traditional typologies of the Colombian Caribbean coast, a characteristic process of the architectural studio DEB.
The space has a great height that is topped by arched joints and clean lines that give a modern and fresh look to the space. The floor is covered with handcrafted tiles produced locally by NECA, which connects the design elements and gives them a familiar touch. Lighting also played a main role in the composition of the interior atmosphere, always directing the light in a dim and indirect way to generate a calm and controlled environment that allows users to carry out their activities comfortably without worrying too much about time. It is a timeless but very familiar space that unites many styles in the way a home would, turning the space into a special place where anyone can feel comfortable having a good time accompanied by a good coffee.
