What began as a “quick” renovation evolved into a complete transformation, resulting in a flexible home that comfortably accommodates everyone from small children to grandparents while remaining intimate and cozy. We removed the kitschy remnants of a 1985 renovation, including a bay window that obscured the original fenestration, revealing the home’s arched windows whose curves went on to influence custom furniture and finishes throughout. A reimagined vertical circulation anchors the new design by implementing a glass walled, skylit central stair that wraps around a double-height half-bath, gently filling the main floor with diffused light. The interiors feature purposefully neutral tones, with transitions marked by subtle shifts in color, texture, and materiality drawn from the surrounding landscape. The result is a quiet interplay between architecture and nature, offering both participation in and protection from the elements. Delicately finished yet never precious, the home is designed to evolve with the family over time.
