E+J wanted their new apartment to challenge the standard typical layouts offered by this older building. Sitting up on the 47th floor, the available views were amazing. Working with the intracultural constraints, we were able to redefine the spaces with the introduction of these competing volumes. The free-standing central walnut volume houses the stove on the kitchen side and the bar and entertainment center on the living room side. The textured black paneling defines the secondary volume. This volume is engaged and houses the powder room and laundry rooms. This strong wood and black combination work to contemporize this apartment and opening up the kitchen allows more light and access to views throughout the apartment.
