This is residential project in the Ein Hod Artist Village in the North of Israel. Built in the 1970's, the
house was designed as two separate cubes placed side by side. We sought to create a space that gives an effect that both cubes work as one.
By connecting and expanding the public area, we designed one unified shared space. Opening a "window" between the kitchen and work room enabled an expanded view while also serving a dual function. Firstly, to extend vision of the internal living space and secondly, to offer a vista from inside to the outer green landscape.
The residents – a librarian and artist (painter)- asked that we create a pastoral yet modern atmosphere for their home. With this in mind, we put emphasis on warm materials and elements such as a fireplace, natural oak wood in all rooms, and chose the grays of the color palate for a country yet modern feel. In addition, we placed architectural lighting to display the artwork of the owner when work is completed.
