This original 1954 “forgotten” house, by American Modernist Edward Durell Stone, was renovated to include clean, contrasting components of blackened steel wih a wax finish. This included the staircase, glass handrail and fireplace cladding.
This is a classic story of a building that has been purchased and slated for demolition by the new owner. The architect that was hired realized it was a Stone design, and the building was renovated as close as possible to the original specs. The original Stone staircase concept was abandoned, and Serett was asked to design a staircase that would replace it. We were awarded the job based on our design. This staircase has a single stringer and cantilevered steps with a blackened and wax finish.
A blackened steel cladding surrounds the gas fireplace with latching hinges that open the door.
