The educational park is located in the municipality of Abejorral, in the east side of the department of Antioquia, founded in 1805. It is part of the 44 municipalities in Colombia that were declared a National Cultural Interest by the Ministry of Culture, a special mention that seeks to highlight their cultural richness through the dissemination and protection of the values that constitute this Cultural Heritage of the nation.
The design starts from recognizing elements of the material heritage of the municipality, identifying characteristic elements of architecture of the place. It takes as reference elements such as wooden windows built with craft techniques, the wainscot as a system of protection and visual continuity of facades, the mud roof tiles with eaves over the street and work with perforated bricks and graphic applications use in enclosures, floors and interior finishes.
It takes up typical spaces of Antioquia´s traditional architecture, like patios that gives order around to the building program or uses. As well, other areas, like the public square and the access to the houses, are used as a reference to create meeting spaces.
The project seeks to be incorporated into the heritage context, in a respectful and harmonious way, but at the same time it propose a space that rethinks the traditional elements looking at the future, by using materiality and current construction techniques
