The plot, located in this new area of the city, not even urbanized, had a dimension of barely 10,000 m2 and had to house a program of more than 7,500 m2 built. In this way, our initial concern was how we could organize this plot so that the school did not give a feeling of excessive occupation and each cycle of education (first and second cycle, primary and secondary) could have autonomy and its own outdoor spaces, fundamental in this type of buildings. In addition, the school had to have a sports court and a sports complex that would house a futsal court, stands and changing rooms.
Given these conditions, what we did was project all the main volumes on the edges of the plot, leaving a central courtyard space that would house the sports court, closely related to the sports center. The covered outdoor porches, both in the primary and secondary modules, also open onto this central space. The two nursery cycles, each with its own independent patio, are located on the east side of the lot and have independent access through a patio space and outdoor classrooms. These two volumes are only one height and make the general central patio have wide views of Mount El Ope, which has finally given its name to the school. The Secondary area also has independent access, while the main access to the center is through the primary block, through a covered porch that gives access to the central articulated patio.
Strong volumes, modulated structure that allows flexibility in the use of the units, maintenance economy, importance of the interior-exterior relationship on the ground floor through covered porches and large glazing, concern for sunlight in the arrangement of the units and use of protection systems solar, durability of materials (brick, exposed concrete, tile in specific places to give a touch of color...). They have been premises for the design of a center that has also had a budget of around 600 euros per m2 and whose execution was completed in just over a year.
