The Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration (RANEPA) is attended by students majoring in social economics and humanities. In 2020, the architects from the PRIDE creative production union completed the design of a new academic building in the center of Moscow.
The seven-story building with the total area of about 10 thousand square meters (107,639 sq.ft.) will be built in Bolshoi Kharitonievsky Lane in the Basmanny district of the city. The architectural look of the building will leave no doubts about its function because the facade of the academic building looks like a bookshelf with the spines of books. According to the authors, pylons act as the spines of the books. The names of famous literary works will be placed along the perimeter of the pylons.
An almost glass corner of the academic building seems to be inviting students inside. The panoramic windows reflect the neighboring historical buildings, allowing the building to retain its integrity and to blend in with the existing buildings.
Next to the academic building, there will be a park where students can spend their free time. In the summer, a cafeteria, which would become a new point of attraction, could be installed. The paving stones of the public garden stylistically match the text engraved on the facades.
The atrium with an open, as if floating staircase and panoramic elevators, became the center of the spatial composition. On each floor around the atrium space, there are lobbies, halls, or recreational areas with classrooms, faculty offices, and utility rooms.
Due to the architecture of the new building, students will not only gain knowledge as part of the learning process but will also be able to communicate freely outside the classroom.
