Edinburgh Street Food is one of the most amazing projects we have taken on until now. It is located in the heart of Edinburgh, a city we love. ESF aims to bring a new approach to the food scene in Edinburgh by making it much more fun and democratic.
The design of the space is bold, crazy, loud and funky. There are 10 kitchens selling different foods within the venue. Each vendor is unique and showcases its personality and food through their shopfronts, making the interiors even more fun and eclectic.
Street art covers the space including walls, floors, ceilings, columns, and bathrooms. We worked with KMG who created a big 360-piece artwork in the lobby and collaborated with other graffiti artists on the bar and corridor walls. We also collaborated with the best local artisans, such as Solas, who created all the neon signs in the project (loads of neon signs!!). Solas also made the main ESF outdoor sign: a unique piece in mirror and pink neon.
The outdoor space of ESF consists of 3 bespoke colourful canopies with hanging plants that sit in the terrace space between two buildings. We designed the canopies’ shape to follow the buildings that surround them, so they fit perfectly as part of the urban landscape. Wooden triangular tables are staggered around the canopies and planters. These tables were designed to enhance the feeling of being outdoors “picnic-style”.
The outdoor and indoor spaces are designed to be read together constantly. We added a lot of foliage inside and out to accentuate this outdoor-indoor relationship (lots of greenery hanging off the ceilings, in the columns, and the bars…).
Edinburgh Street Food is shortlisted for the “Restaurant Newcomer of the Year” at The Scottish Excellence Awards 2024.
