‘Ciénaga de Mallorquín’ is a coastal lagoon, located in the extreme north of Barranquilla (COL). It is where the salty waters from the Atlantic Ocean and freshwaters from the Magdalena River encounter. Despite their differences in density and composition, both manage to become a single surface that maintains a natural cycle. The architecture, on the other hand, is projected as pieces inserted in the territory with the intention of being integrated by the ecosystem. The interplay between a fluctuating ecosystem and adaptable design elements transforms the landscape into a continuum in which living bodies can dwell and meet. The drawings highlight the new structures while showcasing the system as a whole.
The 'Masterplan Ciénaga de Mallorquín' project consists of three independent project located along the shore of the Mallorquín lagoon; the 'Ciénaga de Mallorquín' ecopark, the 'Puerto Mocho' beach and the 'Bocas de Ceniza' touristic train.
