The Jinyun Mountain National Nature Reserve serves as a crucial ecological barrier for Chongqings central urban area. However, long-term environmental degradation, resulting from unauthorized construction and unregulated development, has left visible scars on the landscape. The project is situated on a site where illegal structures were demolished, leaving multiple steep artificial cuts along the slopes. In an otherwise serene setting of lush green hills and tranquil lakes, these scars stand out starkly, creating a striking contrast with the surroundings in terms of ecological resilience and geographic authenticity. As the only new public building within the core protection zone, the project itself becomes an exhibit embodying the principles of ecological civilization. The design adopts the stance of a welcoming home rather than an imposing monument, guided by principles of harmony, variation, novelty, concealment, and subtlety to achieve symbiosis with the mountain. Through a modest morphology and a rich yet organized circulation, the architecture focuses on inward reflection while embracing outward views. Inspired by the oracle bone script character for mountain (), triangular forms are introduced to fill the sites depressions, mending the ecological wounds with a modest and friendly gesture. The plan unfolds in four sequencesTracking, Viewing, Contemplating, Debatingeach aligning with path, pause, exhibition and forum. A micro-garden is inserted into the tight footprint. At ground floor one enters an ecological courtyard that harbours a mountain fragment, a spatial metaphor of mutual shelter. On the second floor, the eco-lecture hall is positioned within an open and transparent glass structure, connecting to the outdoor forest courtyard and the viewing platform. The aerial gallery on the third floor is abstracted from the split-rock torrent of chinese painting, flanks visitors with mirrored planes that multiply distant peakscreating a sense of total immersion between the visitor, the mountain, and the architecture.
