The design of an urban structure involves a comprehensive reflection considering the environment in its broadest sense, the existing and future users, their needs and their relationship with the environment.
These crucial elements structuring the urban approach, generate reflection on several interrelated levels.
Binding the land to evolving history, from a past, first agricultural then industrial, to the 21st century urban development lead us to point up the resident of the new district :
They will build their identity from :
- The place, with its intrinsic characteristics ( eco-district ).
- Its history, which seems essential to keep in mind,
- connecting to a new centre that Genappe gradually builds using land management tools.
This transversality inspired and motivated our team to present this project , fruit of long rallies, intense reflection and enriching competitive dialogue.
-Creating a central green space : The Green Corridor, pedestrian and recreational area, which extends from the "prairie de la Chapelle ND de Foy", creates a rift in the projected landscape, continues beyond the "rue Pavé St-Joseph" to finally join the "Parc du Directeur" and the "Ravel" towards the centre and the "bassins de la Sucrerie" (nature reserve) .
- Structuring intern roads to the site as if it drains toward the Green Corridor and creation of comfortable pedestrian routes, around and through the site.
- Across the Green corridor, creation of a safe pedestrian-cycle path from the "prairie de la Chapelle ND de Foy" to the centre of Genappe .
The organisation of settlements is based on the desire to offer different type of lifestyle depending on where one is, declined to habitat suitable for all the needs of the targeted population.
Following this philosophy, we don't want to impose a single styled architecture that would impact on the whole neighborhood.
The streets as well as successive licenses must allow the evolution of architectural language throughout the implementation of the project, according to the preferences of buyers and throughout future renovations .
