A tropical architecture where local tradition meets modern tecnology.
The new Boutique Hotel in Kuala Lumpur is located in one of the most exclusive and green residential areas of Kuala Lumpur, close to the city centre, where the natural environment is characterized by secular tropical trees that are typical of the insular Jungle of Malacca Gulf.
The design is inspired by the local buildings and construction methods, characterized by a strong sense of belonging to the tradition of the tropical latitude, such as the wooden piles which have become usual to deal with monsoon floods and free plans without dividing walls to allow natural ventilation to mitigate the high temperatures and high humidity of the air.
The aim is to create a tropical architecture where tradition and modernity are fused. Due to the narrow proportions of the plot the builiding’s shape is lenghtened and the footprint maximizes the funtionality within the plot’s triangle figure.
The result is a building developed in the vertical direction. There are 10 stories above the ground floor and two underground levels for the parking.
The lobby is three stories high, the access is on the ground floor; the reception is located on the 3rd floor and it can be reached by escalators.
In this way, the building has a free plan on the first two floors , exception made for the technical volumes, and the whole building is perceived as suspended from the ground.
The goal is to reconstruct an ecosystem as if it was around a giant tree in the rainforest, with its wide branches, vines, creepers, and different ecosystems climbing towards the top.
On the roof top is located a naturalistic garden area with a pool and an outdoor lounge bar.
The main facade has a wide gap in the middle that allows both natural ventilation of the indoor spaces and a fantastic view of Kuala Lumpur skyline.
Sustainable solutions have been integrated in the building design, as the clients required: orientation, natural ventilation, green roofs, energy saving envelopes together with solar radiation controls are the key strategies to obtain a Green Building certification with high rate.
Indoor and common spaces are based on natural materials like wood and stone.
