This renovation transforms a non-descript contemporary East Village apartment into an updated interpretation of the grand 19th century penthouse, rich with materials such as open-grained, hand-waxed white oak paneling, tumbled French limestone floors, encaustic plaster walls, highly polished black lacquer cabinets and a vintage hardwood ceiling of beams and rafters created with reclaimed French timbers. Existing windows in the main living/dining area were replaced with a row of 12’ high arched French doors in blackened industrial steel that lead out to the terrace. Upstairs, the Master Bedroom Suite carries through the same vintage wood ceiling, and materials. The Master Bath features a free-standing tub of white enamel and polished nickel in a sky lit niche with walls clad in gloss black subway tile.
