The redesign of East Ivanhoe Travel & Cruise was premised on creating an environment where general conceptions of the role of the travel agent in the digital age could be reset.
The client delivers a dedicated, personal service for their own clients' utmost comfort and luxury. With the golden era of travel in mind, Flack Studio was tasked with bringing to life this style of service within the workspace.
The end result is an understated, sophisticated environment that invokes the elegance of the 1950s and 60s through a thoroughly modern take on it.
A treasured Swissair geographical world map hangs on the wall in practical, timeless style; its icy cerulean tones and flecks of chartreuse inspiration for the colour scheme. Hornbeam flooring and vertical pine battens bring a coolly Scandinavian edge to the waiting area, while the smart flash of colour of mustard velvet upholstery and creamy leather task chairs deliver a light counterpoint to the deep charcoal and navy in the custom-designed desks, and the strong, structural lines of the space.
Detailing is at the heart of Flack Studio's design approach, and the effect that understanding has is clearly evidenced here. The warm grey tones of luxurious sisal carpeting set beneath light grey wall paneling suggests that a visit to upstate New York or a Hamptons weekender could be the order of the day.
The Elba marble and laser-cut black steel signage sharply denotes the space as a place of business, while the softness of gently draping greenery, an unexpected Gubi-sourced pendant light, and well-appointed brass accoutrements contribute to the overall effect that this inviting, structured yet accessible space is very much on offer for the visitor's pleasure.
