A
new residence situated on a 32 acre farm overlooking the Head of the Harbor on
the Long Island Sound, New York. The clients requested a Shingle Style house
that would accommodate the needs of their family, various workshops, and an
astronomical observatory. The 22,000 square foot residence was designed to
straddle two slopes bisected by an abandoned 18th century tree-lined lane from
the harbor. Taking advantage of the views, the lower level under the first
floor terrace was excavated for an indoor pool and accessory spaces, with the
main public areas of the home above, oriented towards a meadow and the harbor
beyond.
