Our clients, a young couple, initially approached us to improve
lighting, develop a better furniture and finish plan, and generally clean up
the 3,300sf duplex loft they’d just bought, after which they asked us to create
a highly-functional home office out of a seven-foot wide fourteen-foot high
space on their upper floor that could be easily transformed into a media play
room. For this, we developed a
highly-engineered custom wall-mounted pivot-arm desk with dual monitors that
all fold against the wall to leave the floor open when friends are over,
complemented by a system of custom removable magnetic shelves. To provide room for relaxing and gaming, we
added an undulating laser-cut steel waffle mezzanine with a translucent glass
floor to allow light through. The "El Capitan" full-height climbable bookshelf in the four-foot wide hall leading to the office,
configured to be narrower at shoulder height, maximizes storage space.
