This project transforms a four-story building with ground-floor shops in the heart of Athens’ commercial triangle into Dwell, a small, elegant boutique hotel. Originally built in phases between 1955 and the 1960s, the building once housed silversmith workshops, retail spaces, and a residence before falling into disrepair.
The renovation restores its façades and repurposes the upper floors into boutique accommodation—four rooms on the first and second floors, and three on the third—while the ground floor now features a café and the reception.
A key design feature was the preservation of the 1960s architectural elements, such as the artificial stucco finish and the concrete grid of vertical and horizontal projections. Visual clarity was reinforced with a unified louvered canopy replacing the mismatched shop awnings.
Inside, the concept merges neoclassical elegance with modern design. Each floor is defined by a monochromatic colour scheme—green, yellow, or red. Neoclassical-inspired sleeping and living areas feature custom plaster details, vaulted ceilings, and integrated furnishings, while entrances, bathrooms, and kitchenettes adopt a sleek contemporary style.
Dwell reimagines a historic building as a boutique hotel that celebrates its past while offering guests a refined and contemporary urban experience.
