Designated a Pebble Project by The Center for Health Design, this 94-bed hospital “revolutionizes health care delivery by optimizing the medical, spiritual, and emotional well-being of patients, families, and staff.” Utilizing the perspective of customers and employees, the hospital is designed to fit into the landscape of the community with a natural rhythm that breaks down the fear and intimidation of a hospital visit. Staff recruitment and retention is paramount to the success of this new, community hospital. Applying research in a sensitive and thoughtful manner that considered elements of healing environments and every user’s individual experience, the hospital incorporates a variety of evidence-based design principles including abundant natural light, easy access to outdoor gardens, and private, acuity-adaptable, like-handed patient, operating, and exam/treatment rooms. Natural interior finishes and colors create a pleasant, less institutional environment. Artwork portraying views of nature within the patient rooms and throughout the hospital corridors provides a soothing vibe.
